The colour of the displayed vehicle speed differs whether they are adhering to the speed limit or not. This visual reminder prompts drivers to adjust their speed and adhere to the posted limits. When a vehicle approaches the sign, the internal radar will check and display their speed in LEDs. Above the LED display is a “YOUR SPEED” message in white vinyl. Red/Green mode: When a vehicle approaches the sign under the set speed limit (e.g. 30mph) The sign will illuminate green LEDs. Conversely, the sign will display the vehicle speed in red LEDs for those exceeding the limit. Red/Amber/Green mode: In this mode the sign will have 2 speed thresholds as opposed to just the one. If a vehicle is driving under the speed limit, the vehicle speed will be shown in green. If the vehicle is driving just over the speed limit (e.g. 32mph in a 30mph zone) it will illuminate their speed in Amber, prompting them to slow their speed. Furthermore, if the vehicle is far exceeding the speed limit (e.g. 35mph+) then the sign will display their speed in red LEDs. Additionally, an upper speed limit can be set on the signs, where the sign will no longer illuminate if the approaching vehicle is moving at extreme speeds. This is to discourage drivers from speeding in order to create a “high score”.
