Depending on the type of sign selected
the following methods of communication are generally available:-
Infra Red: This can either
be in the form of a keyboard or hand held remote (similar
to your TV controller). This method of communication is
generally used on single line displays where the message
only needs updating occasionally.
RS 232: More commonly known
as a serial interface, this allows the sign to be updated
via a standard cable which is permanently connected between
the sign and your PC or Laptop. This method of communication
is only recommended up to a distance of 25M between the
Sign and PC.
RS422/RS485: This is also
a serial connection similar to the above but allows a
greater distance between the sign and PC – up to
100M.
TCP/IP: This is also known
as an Ethernet or a LAN connection. By allocating a static
IP Address to the display it can be connected to an existing
network and communicated to from any PC with access to
the network, available in 10 or 100BaseT configurations.
Telephone Modem: By
using a modem you can effectively create a world wide
communication system by utilising the existing telecom
network.
Sandard call charges will apply.
Plug
in keyboard: A simple hand held
keypad plugs into a port on the display. Text is entered
from the keypad. Once text is entered the keypad can be
removed. Advantage is simplicity of operation. Disadvantage
is that it's quite time consuming.
